Definition & Explanation

Cyber threat intelligence (CTI)

Cyber threat intelligence (CTI) refers to the collection, analysis, and dissemination of information about emerging cyber threats, threat actors, tactics, techniques, and vulnerabilities. In the Australian context, cyber threat intelligence supports organisations in anticipating attacks targeting sectors such as critical infrastructure, defence, finance, and healthcare. CTI integrates data from open-source intelligence, commercial feeds, government advisories, and internal security telemetry. Actionable cyber threat intelligence allows security teams to prioritise patching, strengthen monitoring rules, and enhance incident response readiness. By aligning CTI with frameworks like the Essential Eight and NIST, organisations can move from reactive to proactive defence. Effective cyber threat intelligence improves detection speed, reduces dwell time, and enables executive-level insight into threat trends affecting Australian industry.
