Definition & Explanation

ISO standard

An ISO standard is an internationally recognised guideline developed by the International Organization for Standardization to ensure quality, safety, efficiency, and interoperability across industries. ISO standards cover areas such as information security (ISO 27001), quality management (ISO 9001), and risk management (ISO 31000). Organisations adopt an ISO standard to improve governance, enhance operational performance, and demonstrate compliance with global best practices. Certification against an ISO standard provides assurance to regulators, customers, and stakeholders that structured management systems are in place. Implementing an ISO standard strengthens risk management frameworks and promotes continuous improvement.
